There are so many ways a company can contribute to its community. We developed criteria to determine our selection of charitable organizations to support:

• The organization's mission should relate to health care. Gateway EDI serves the health care industry, and has chosen to focus our efforts there.
• The organization's activities should be directed towards children.
• This should be an opportunity to give our time as well as financial assistance. Gateway EDI allows each employee eight hours of company time annually to contribute to a charitable cause.
• The organization should be strong, yet of a size that Gateway EDI's volunteer and financial help would represent a significant contribution to the organization's mission.

Using these criteria, Gateway EDI adopted the Children's Home Society of Missouri(CHS). This organization provides a loving home environment for children with multiple and profound developmental disabilities. CHS also provides respite care for 40 families, providing relief to parents who meet the daily challenges of caring for their severely handicapped children. Although this agency receives federal funding, it also relies on community support. This support provides additional activities for the 27 children that reside in two St. Louis area homes.

Since adopting CHS in January of 2001, Gateway EDI has contributed in several ways. We have sponsored a golf tournament, redecorated the bedrooms of the Brentwood home, provided Christmas gifts each year for each child, taken the children on field trips, thrown parties to celebrate Valentine's Day and Halloween, purchased a computer system designed for accessibility to children with disabilities, and provided prizes for the annual CHS benefit auction, "Fun Raiser".
