Procedure code updates from the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will take effect on January 1, 2006.
In compliance with HIPAA code set regulations, Aetna will accept the new codes for dates of services on or after January 1, 2006. Deleted codes will not be accepted for dates of service on or after January 1, 2006. Please be sure to review the updates so that you can continue to submit procedure codes valid on the date of service.
Procedure code lists and update information for 2006 should now be available from your usual sources, such as commercial publishers and computer system vendors.
IMPORTANT: Gateway EDI would like to remind you that this update affects all payers, and claims will be rejected if the codes are not updated for claims with dates of service on or after January 1, 2006.
