e-MDs Continues Track Record of Employee and Revenue Growth

Austin-based electronic health record vendor doubles growth rate in 2010.

March 2, 2011

AUSTIN, TX – e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs), is proud to announce another year of record revenue and employee growth. In 2010 e-MDs doubled their growth rate from the previous two years. Total employee count grew from 209 to 275 through the course of 2010, a 31% increase, expanding nearly every department with both entry level and senior positions. The company anticipates significant growth will continue through 2011 in the areas of provider training, implementation, customer support, meaningful use assistance, health information exchanges, special projects (e.g., the Patient Centered Medical Home), practice optimization, patient safety initiatives, research, design, development, quality assurance, content development, and education.

e-MDs began an escalation in hiring in early 2009, and continued to see significant growth throughout 2010. In order to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction during this period of expansion, e-MDs continues to focus on its commitment to hiring and training a staff that will be an asset to customers. A US-based support team is always available to e-MDs customers and is one of the many reasons why the company continues to garner numerous top rankings in independent surveys, including receiving two 2010 Best in KLAS awards for Ambulatory EHR (2-5 physician) and Practice Management (2-5 physician).

“A large portion of our customer growth can be attributed to e-MDs being selected by the majority of regional extension centers that have created some form of vendor short list,” said Patrick Hall, Executive Vice President of Business Development at e-MDs. ” We are one of the top selected vendors which, given the rigorous nature of the selection processes that evaluate customer satisfaction, product capabilities, corporate financial stability, and numerous other factors, is a reflection of our leadership position in the industry,” concluded Hall.

“e-MDs’ remarkable growth in 2010 is a testament of our commitment to providing our customers with the knowledge and support they need to achieve the highest level of care possible,” said Dr. Michael Stearns, President and CEO of e-MDs. “We are thankful to our loyal and growing customer base for allowing us to make their practices more efficient and secure.”

e-MDs Receives Two “Best in KLAS” Awards

AUSTIN, TX — e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records, announced that its electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) software, e-MDs Solution Series™ Version 7.0, has been named “Best in KLAS” in two of the 2010 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software and Professional Services report. e-MDs received Best in KLAS in the Ambulatory EMR (2-5 physician) category, and Best in KLAS for Practice Management (2-5 physician).

Best in KLAS rankings are awarded annually and celebrate vendors that have received the highest provider scores for software, professional services, and medical equipment. KLAS ratings are the measuring stick by which thousands of hospitals and clinics evaluate vendor performance.  This year’s Best in KLAS awards continue the consistent pattern of high user ratings e-MDs has received from physician surveys, including those conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)  (e-MDs has been the top overall vendor in all 3 AAFP surveys conducted thus far); American College of Physicians (ACP) (e-MDs was the top vendor in the ACP EHR Partner Program evaluations performed in 2008 and 2009), and AmericanEHR Partners.

“Since 1998, the objective of the Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards report has been to help healthcare providers make informed decisions,” said KLAS President Adam Gale.”The Best in KLAS distinction represents a commitment to meeting customer expectations and we congratulate the vendors making strides in every phase of customer relations—from the sales presentation to implementation to ongoing service and support.”

KLAS is an independent organization that reports medical device and health information system performance ratings based on evaluations submitted by thousands of healthcare providers throughout the United States and Canada over a 12-month period. KLAS rankings measure a vendor’s performance in the areas of product quality, implementation, service and support. By reporting accurate, honest, and impartial vendor performance data, KLAS helps healthcare providers make informed technology decisions.   Unbiased ranking systems like KLAS have made e-MDs a top selected vendor by Health Information Technology Regional Extensions Centers (HITRECs) across the country.  Solution Series™ users have experienced improvements in workflow and billing and received ambulatory care awards such as the esteemed 2010 HIMSS Davies Awards.

“We feel honored to have performed so well in such a well-respected evaluation,” stated Michael Stearns, MD, the President and CEO of e-MDs. “The Best in KLAS awards are especially important to us because they rely on the opinions of healthcare professionals who use our technology on a day-to-day basis,” said Stearns. “As providers look to select the best technologies for their operations, KLAS has historically offered some of the most respected research in the healthcare industry. This acknowledgement has given us the confidence that our solutions will meet their expectations.  We are honored to have our EHR ranked at the top by the most credible and objective evaluations available, including those performed by KLAS, the AAFP and the ACP.”

Beyond high industry user ratings and industry rankings, e-MDs Solution Series™ has received Meaningful Use Certification, including being one of the only vendors to certify on all 44 clinical quality measures.  This demonstrates the robustness and usability of the software.  e-MDs clients enjoy ease of use and realize return on their investment shortly after implementation.  Both of the 2010 HIMSS Ambulatory Care Davies Award winners are also e-MDs clients.

Charlotte Martin, Gateway EDI President and Chief Operating Officer, Named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award Finalist

Gateway EDI is proud to announce that its president and COO, Charlotte Martin, is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award in the Central Midwest.

According to Ernst & Young, the awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. The group of finalists for the Central Midwest was selected by an independent judging panel made up of regional business, academic and community leaders.

Martin refers to herself as the chief cultural officer. In that role, she fosters an environment of risk taking and idea generation in order to develop employees, and ultimately, the company. Essentially, instead of bringing negative attention to mistakes, the company uses “training opportunities” to identify steps that could have been taken and ways employees can learn from the incident.

The positive spin has helped Gateway EDI’s 300 employees generate over $50 million in 2009 revenue. Now, not only are employees taking risks and responsibility for their actions, a Process Improvement Team has been created to encourage employees to take the lead on their ideas for company improvements. Since joining Gateway EDI, Charlotte’s leadership has consistently delivered over 30 percent top line revenue growth.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards program celebrates its 24th anniversary this year. The program has expanded to recognize leaders in over 135 cities in 50 countries throughout the world.

Gateway EDI Achieves CAQH CORE Phase I Certification

Health Management Technology: Gateway EDI Achieves CAQH CORE Phase I Certification for Consistent Health Care Administrative Data Exchange

The CORE Seal was awarded after Gateway EDI successfully completed certification testing for its clearinghouse product - a process ensuring that health care organizations can electronically exchange or access patient insurance information according to the CORE Phase I rules.

CORE-certification ensures that Gateway EDI customers can securely process electronic queries within 20 seconds and that providers will receive consistent patient administrative information.

“We are proud to have achieved the CORE Phase I Seal because of the significant benefits it offers our customers,” said Charlotte A. Martin, Gateway EDI’s president and chief operating officer. “This certification ensures that processes are in place to help our health care providers achieve dramatic cost savings, fewer claim denials and improved functions. We are pleased to be affiliated with CAQH because they work to simplify processes and reduce administrative burden.”

Martin continued, “Gateway EDI offers real-time and batch solutions for patient eligibility. The CORE certification will also ensure that we are processing these transactions as efficiently as we can. We are looking forward to more and more payers adopting the same rules to enhance and streamline the information we can route to the provider. This greatly enhances the value of these transactions.”

The CORE rules, which build upon national standards, including HIPAA’s eligibility (X12 270/271) transaction, make electronic administrative data communications seamless, streamlined and predictable, regardless of the technology. In many cases, the CORE rules eliminate the need for time-consuming phone calls and paperwork.

A recent study found that when trading partners exchange administrative data according to the CORE rules, the organizations reduce costs and streamline administrative processes. The CAQH study conducted by IBM Global Business Services shows that the CORE rules are accelerating adoption of HIT technology and helping to provide better access to patient coverage information. An industry-wide adoption of the CORE Phase I rules alone could save the industry an estimated $3 billion in three years.

“The CORE rules represent a cutting-edge approach to streamlining electronic administrative data exchange,” said Robin J. Thomashauer, CAQH executive director. “By adopting the rules and completing CORE-certification, Gateway EDI is reducing unnecessary health care administrative burden, and helping U.S. health care become more efficient and responsive to patient concerns.”
